Antiwar.com's Fundraiser starts Monday!
Sat Aug 09, 2008 at 05:19:25 AM PDT
I've not posted here for a while, since I'm not voting for the Democratic Presidential nominee in the general election (don't worry, I'm not voting for McCain). However, I think it's worth posting about antiwar.com's upcoming fundraising drive.
So...on impeachment, what happens when

the presumptive nominee comes out and says it's a distraction? (mind you, I haven't heard that he has, but he didn't support impeachment before and I don't think he will now).

Sure, it's a bit to the libertarian side for me (libertarians being anarchists whithout conviction (!)), but on the other side of things, Justin Raimondo is somewhat of an Obama fan.

Original article by Ralph Nader, subheaded The Story of Lisa Kelly, via Counterpunch.com.
Note: Since this is not a campaign article arguing for the election of one candidate over another, I think it's worth reading what Ralph has to say.
My Vote: Neither one of them (D).

The original article, subheaded The Broken Promises of Neoliberalism, by Mark Engler via counterpunch.com.
Where are we as far as economic policy and the Democratic party, and where are we likely to end up should the Democrats gain control of the White House (as well as extend their majorities in the Senate and House)? What is the effect upon the rank and file of the Democratic Party?

Original articleby Pat LaMarche via bangordailynews.com.
Are we really having discussions about whether or not to participate in the 2008 Olympics? Are people actually sitting in coffee shops discussing whether the civil rights violations in China warrant a U.S. boycott of the opening ceremonies or even the games themselves?

The original article, by Mike Whitney, via dissidentvoice.org.
The bright new financial system, with all its talented participants, with all its rich rewards, has failed the test of the marketplace.
– Former Fed Chief, Paul Volcker
Not much more needs to be said, but will the failure in the marketplace be allowed to die a dignified death? Yeah...right.
The Politics of Distraction in an Age of Gotcha Capitalism w/poll
Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 04:48:00 PM PDT
The original article, subheaded Disintegration is Everywhere, by Ralph Nader via counterpunch.com.
This is quite worth the read. If you are working for more and better Democrats, it's worth a look just to see where someone who's not part of the organization is seeing things. For those of you ready to rip on it being from Ralph, he's not calling on you to change your vote in this article, he's asking you to pay attention to what the campaign's being run on and how it relates to what's actually going on in the country. I don't see a call for a serious discussion of the issues of the day as being a bad thing at all, whoever it comes from.
Note: I debated whether to post this since the original article is by Ralph: Since it's not a direct advocacy of his campaign (he doesn't ask us to vote for him even once) I decided to because I think that if we are in search of electing more and better Democrats we would do well to heed his words.

Wothwhile reading if only for the statistics. But Roberts, as almost always recently, hits the nail on the head as far as where the economy actually stands.
